The Big Brother Awards will be presented at the University of Zurich on August 29, 2019. The nomination deadline has expired: More than 40 organizations were nominated for the negative award for data sinners. The submitted cases will now be examined by experts so that the jury can base its decision on well-founded facts.
After a break of 10 years, the Big Brother Awards will again take place in Switzerland. It is a negative award for companies and government agencies that neglect sensitive data or violate the right to privacy through their actions.
During the nomination period, which has now expired, the Organizing Committee received more than 40 reports. The nominees include large and well-known Swiss companies as well as state-owned enterprises and small and very small companies. Among them are also a few non-profit organizations. After an initial sorting, experts are now investigating the facts so that the jury can base its decision on watertight dossiers.
The jury is made up of experts from the Foundation for Consumer Protection, the Digital Society, the p≡p Foundation and the Chaos Computer Club Switzerland. The Big Brother Award will be presented on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the University of Zurich. The winners will be informed in advance, as the occasion is an opportunity for discussion.
