The Big Brother Awards reward data sinners in business and politics and were therefore called "Oscars for Data Kraken" by Le Monde. The Big Brother Awards are an international project: since 1998, questionable practices have been awarded these prizes in 19 countries.
In Switzerland, the Big Brother Awards took place for the first time in 2000 and then annually until 2009. Now, after a break of 10 years, we are picking up the thread with a new team and relaunched the award ceremony.
We are the Chaos Computer Club Switzerland, the Digital Society Switzerland and the p≡p Foundation.
The award ceremony took place on 29 August at 19:00 at the University of Zurich in the lecture hall KO2-F-180.
The video recordings of the award ceremony are available on YouTube.
We received over 40 nominations for the Big Brother Awards. These will now be evaluated by the jury. The jury consists of the non-profit and independent organizations Chaos Computer Club Switzerland, Digital Society, p≡p Foundation and Foundation for Consumer Protection. All of these organizations bring with them many years of expertise in matters of commitment to privacy and the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.
The Big Brother Awards will be presented at the University of Zurich on August 29, 2019. The nomination deadline has expired: More than 40 organizations were nominated for the negative award for data sinners. The submitted cases will now be examined by experts so that the jury can base its decision on well-founded facts.
After a break of 10 years, the negative prize for data kraken from business and politics will again be awarded in Switzerland. The new team consists of the Foundation for Consumer Protection, the Digital Society, the p≡p Foundation and the Chaos Computer Club Switzerland.
